The World Bank has upgraded its outlook for Morocco’s agricultural sector in its January 2026 economic update, forecasting a strong rebound driven by favorable rainfall patterns across key growing regions in late 2025 and early 2026. After two consecutive years of drought that severely depressed cereal, olive, and citrus production, abundant precipitation has improved soil moisture, replenished reservoirs, and supported healthy crop development heading into the spring harvest season.
The Bank projects agricultural value added to grow by 4.5–5.5% in 2026, a sharp recovery from the -4.8% contraction recorded in 2025.Despite the optimistic outlook, the World Bank cautions that Morocco remains highly vulnerable to climate variability. Erratic rainfall, heatwaves, and water scarcity continue to pose structural risks, underscoring the urgency of long-term investments in irrigation efficiency, climate-smart agriculture, and crop diversification.
