South Korea’s People Power Party Criticizes Government’s Silence

Tensions have once again escalated on the Korean Peninsula as North Korea conducted another intercontinental ballistic missile test, drawing sharp criticism from South Korea’s ruling People Power Party . The conservative party accused the opposition and parts of the government of showing a quiet and weak response to what it called a direct threat to national security and regional peace.

Following the launch, PPP leaders held an emergency press conference in Seoul, urging stronger diplomatic and military action. They criticized what they described as a muted and cautious reaction from South Korea’s political opposition, arguing that it could embolden Pyongyang to continue its provocations.

PPP spokespersons emphasized that North Korea’s growing missile capabilities pose an increasing danger not only to South Korea but also to allies like Japan and the United States. The party argued that a united, firm, and immediate response is necessary to deter further tests and ensure the safety of citizens.

North Korea’s ICBM Launch Raises Alarms Across the Region

The missile test marks another major step in Pyongyang’s efforts to advance its nuclear weapons program, reportedly capable of reaching long-range targets, including parts of the U.S. mainland.

Regional defense analysts noted that the test serves as both a military warning and a political signal, likely intended to pressure Washington and Seoul ahead of potential diplomatic negotiations.

Japan and the United States both condemned the launch, reaffirming their commitments to maintaining regional security through joint defense measures and intelligence sharing.

Calls for Stronger Deterrence and Allied Cooperation

PPP lawmakers demanded tougher defense coordination with the U.S. and Japan, along with the reinforcement of South Korea’s three-axis defense system which includes pre-emptive strike capabilities, missile defense, and retaliatory strike readiness.

The party urged President Yoon Suk-yeol’s administration to take a proactive stance in international forums, calling for global condemnation of North Korea’s repeated violations of United Nations Security Council resolutions.

They also warned that diplomatic restraint without deterrence could send the wrong message to Pyongyang, potentially increasing the risk of escalation in the region.
