Hollywood seems ready to return to the fast-talking, action-comedy roots of the late 1990s as Rush Hour 4 moves into development. According to multiple sources, former U.S. President Donald Trump personally lobbied Paramount Skydance leadership to green-light the fourth installment in the beloved buddy-cop franchise.
The project now reportedly has the original director, Brett Ratner, back on board. Ratner, who helmed the first three Rush Hour films, had stayed away from directing feature films following sexual misconduct allegations in 2017.
Despite the enthusiasm, Ratner’s return comes with baggage. His past controversies have made many studios wary over the years. Still, Trump’s influence and backing from Paramount’s top shareholders appear to have cleared hurdles that stalled the project for years.
