President Taye Atske-Selassie Affirms Ethiopia’s Commitment to Boost Coffee Exports to China

Ethiopian President Taye Atske-Selassie reaffirms the country’s strong dedication to expanding its coffee market share in China on December 27, 2025. He delivers a video address to the inaugural China-Ethiopia Coffee Economic and Trade Promotion Conference in Zhuzhou City, Hunan Province. Moreover, this event marks a significant milestone in bilateral trade, highlighting Ethiopia’s premium specialty coffees and deepening economic ties.

Taye Landmark Conference and New Trading Center

The conference, organized by the Ethio-China Friendship Committee, introduces Ethiopian varieties like Yirgacheffe, Sidama, Kaffa, Harrar, and Jimma to over 700,000 potential taye Chinese consumers. Additionally, an Ethiopian Specialty Coffee Trading Center opens in Zhuzhou on December 28, serving as a hub for display, transactions, and cultural exchange.

China rapidly rises as a key market for Ethiopian coffee. It climbs from the 33rd largest importer five years ago to the 4th largest today. Ethiopia exported over 35,000 tons last year and 16,300 tons (valued at $113 million) in the past five months alone.
