Bengaluru bus station turned tense on Monday when an unattended bag triggered panic among passengers and staff. The incident, which unfolded at the Majestic Kempegowda Bus Station, led to a swift evacuation and a large-scale security sweep by local police and bomb disposal units.
Commuters Alert Police After Spotting Suspicious Bag
According to officials from the Bengaluru City Police, the bag was first noticed by a commuter who alerted security personnel after it lay unclaimed for nearly 20 minutes. As the crowd thickened, officers quickly cordoned off the area to prevent panic and ensure public safety.

Eyewitnesses described a scene of confusion as announcements urged passengers to move away from the platform.
Bomb Squad Conducts Controlled Investigation
The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) rushed to the scene and carried out a controlled examination of the bag.
A senior police officer said that authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to trace the person who left the bag behind. The officer added that while the situation turned out to be a false alarm, it underscored the need for constant vigilance in crowded public transport hubs.
Authorities Heighten Security Following Recent Threat Alerts
The incident comes at a time when security across Indian metros has been tightened following intelligence warnings about possible disruptions in urban centers. Following similar scares in Delhi and Mumbai, Karnataka police have consequently intensified surveillance across railway stations, airports, and bus terminals. .
Officials from the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) said they plan to enhance monitoring using AI-based camera systems and increase staff training to handle emergency alerts efficiently.
Police have praised the public’s alertness, noting that timely reporting by commuters prevented unnecessary risks. “Every citizen’s quick response is crucial to ensuring collective safety,” said Bengaluru Police Commissioner B. Dayananda, urging residents not to ignore suspicious items or behavior.
