Delhi court has refused to take cognisance of the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) chargesheet in the National Herald case, granting temporary relief to Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and triggering protests by party workers.
The court declined to proceed with the ED’s chargesheet, citing procedural and legal deficiencies. The order means the case will not move forward until the agency addresses the court’s observations.
Legal experts say the refusal does not amount to a closure of the case but pauses judicial action for now.
The Congress party hailed the decision as a victory for the rule of law. Party leaders alleged that the case was politically motivated and aimed at harassing opposition leaders.
Congress workers staged protests, accusing the government of misusing investigative agencies.
The Enforcement Directorate has maintained that its probe into alleged financial irregularities linked to the National Herald newspaper is lawful and evidence-based. The agency may refile or revise the chargesheet after meeting legal requirements.
