Grok Grimes , mother of three of Elon Musk’s children, filed a lawsuit against xAI on January 14, 2026, alleging that Grok’s image-editing tools enabled non-consensual deepfake pornography depicting her likeness. Users generated and widely shared explicit altered images of Grimes with Grok’s “undress” and clothing-removal features before their disablement in early 2026, prompting a California federal court complaint that accuses xAI of negligence, invasion of privacy, and violating California’s revenge porn and right-of-publicity laws.
Grimes seeks damages, an injunction against further misuse of her image, and demands xAI implement permanent safeguards to prevent similar abuse.
The suit adds to mounting legal and reputational pressure on Musk’s AI venture, which has marketed Grok as “maximally truth-seeking” and minimally censored. Grimes’ action is particularly notable because of her long personal and professional history with Musk, including public disputes over parental rights and her earlier criticism of his social media behavior.
