Murad and World Bank team up for $4 billion Sindh projects

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah recently met with the World Bank to strengthen cooperation on major development projects worth around $4 billion. These projects span essential sectors such as housing, water, energy, sanitation, health, and mobility. The meeting reflects both parties’ shared commitment to rebuild and modernize Sindh, especially following the devastating 2022 floods.

What projects are included in the $4B plan?

As part of this major $4 billion development effort, the World Bank is driving a diverse portfolio of 13 key projects expected to transform Sindh. One of the most important initiatives is the Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project which focuses on upgrading the city’s aging water supply and sanitation systems. The goal is to deliver clean water more reliably to homes and businesses, while also reducing pollution and improving public health through better sewerage management.

Alongside this, the K-IV Augmentation Project serves as a critical lifeline for Karachi. Designed to deliver up to 650 million gallons of water per day, the project aims to ease the city’s growing water shortage and support its rapidly expanding population.

How the Money Is Being Release ?

Officials are carefully planning and closely monitoring the release and use of the $4 billion in funding to ensure it delivers real benefits to the people of Sindh. So far, they have disbursed over $1.3 billion about 40 percent of the total putting a substantial portion of the funding to work on the ground for critical development efforts

The Sindh government and World Bank teams are actively coordinating to deploy the remaining funds efficiently and without delay .They’ve committed to clearing bottlenecks such as lengthy approval processes, paperwork delays, and construction challenges that could hinder progress.. By identifying and resolving these issues early, they aim to accelerate timelines for both ongoing and upcoming projects.
