Morocco’s Prosperity Gap Widens Despite Steady Economic Growth: Global Index Highlights Challenges

Morocco Prosperity Gap Widens Despite Steady Economic Growth: Global Index Highlights Challenges

Morocco continues to showcase impressive economic resilience and growth in 2025. Projections from the World Bank and other institutions forecast GDP expansion around 3.6%, driven by infrastructure investments, tourism recovery, and manufacturing exports.

Morocco Key Findings from the Global Prosperity Index 2025

The Global Prosperity Index 2025 categorizes in the “low prosperity” tier, placing it eighth in Africa and on the borderline with “very low prosperity.” The index combines six weighted indicators: GDP per capita, gross national income per capita, national savings, UN Human Development Index, Gini coefficient for income inequality, and poverty rates.

Morocco trails African leaders like Mauritius, Seychelles, and Algeria. Globally, it falls well below the “medium prosperity” threshold of 40 points. Strengths include strategic location and political stability, yet these have not spurred significant advances in human development or equality.
