Macron confirms 2026 trip to Bucharest after bilateral talks in Paris

During a bilateral meeting in Paris on 9 December 2025, Romania’s President Nicușor Dan formally invited Macron to pay an official visit to Romania. Macron accepted, scheduling the visit for 2026.

The commitment comes after a day of high-level discussions between the two leaders at the Élysée Palace, where they reviewed cooperation across the economy, energy, defence, and security macron including shared concerns related to regional stability and European defence strategy.

It offers a chance to strengthen economic collaboration: French firms have shown growing interest in Romanian infrastructure, energy and defence-industry ventures.

With ongoing security challenges driven by the war in Ukraine, collaboration between EU members like France and Romania is increasingly critical. Their working agenda reportedly includes defence-industry production, joint security efforts, and support for European solidarity.

The visit could set a tone for EU-wide cooperation, especially as debates continue over energy security, military readiness, and regional geopolitical stability.
