Russia has rejected a new ceasefire proposal, the Kremlin said, signalling continued deadlock in diplomatic efforts to pause fighting in the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Moscow’s Firm Position
Kremlin officials said the proposed ceasefire did not address what Russia describes as its core security demands. As a result, Moscow ruled out accepting the initiative, maintaining its current military and political stance.
The statement reinforces Russia’s resistance to short-term truces that do not include broader political agreements.
The rejection comes amid renewed international calls for a halt to hostilities, particularly to allow humanitarian relief and civilian evacuations. Ukraine and its Western allies have backed ceasefire proposals, arguing they could open space for negotiations.
Western governments expressed disappointment, urging Russia to reconsider and engage constructively in diplomatic talks. Kyiv reiterated that it remains open to peace discussions but insists on respect for its territorial integrity.
Humanitarian Concerns Grow
With fighting continuing, humanitarian agencies warn of worsening conditions for civilians, especially in conflict-affected regions facing shortages of food, energy, and medical supplies.
Diplomatic channels remain open, but observers say progress will depend on shifts in battlefield dynamics and political calculations on both sides.
