JI to hold August 5 rallies for Kashmir and Palestine

JI to hold August 5 rallies for Kashmir and Palestine

Jamaat-e-Islami , one of Pakistan’s prominent religious and political parties, has announced that it will organize nationwide rallies on August 5 to express solidarity with the people of Indian-occupied Kashmir and war-torn Palestine. These protests aim to draw attention to what the party calls the “persistent oppression and injustice” faced by Muslims in both regions.

Why August 5 is a Symbolic and Significant Date for Protest

The date of August 5 carries deep political and emotional meaning for many in Pakistan. On this day in 2019, the Indian government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, revoked Article 370, removing the semi-autonomous status of Jammu and Kashmir and splitting the region into two union territories.

Jamaat-e-Islami believes this act was an attack on the rights and identity of the Kashmiri people. For the last several years, JI has been commemorating this day with rallies, human chains, and public speeches to show solidarity with Kashmiris and to demand the restoration of their rights.

Large-Scale Demonstrations Planned in Major Cities Across Pakistan

The leadership of JI has confirmed that the rallies will be held in major cities including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Multan, Faisalabad, Peshawar, and many smaller towns. The protests will include public addresses by party leaders, processions with flags of Kashmir and Palestine, and banners demanding an end to the violence and occupation in both regions.

JI representatives in Karachi have stated that they are working closely with local administration to ensure that the rallies are peaceful, safe, and organized. The party has called on families, youth, and civil society to come out

Drawing Parallels Between Kashmir and Gaza

According to JI officials, there are many similarities between the situations in Kashmir and Palestine. Both regions have faced decades of military occupation, curfews, enforced disappearances, and restrictions on basic rights. In both cases, Muslim populations are at the receiving end of forceful crackdowns by powerful states India in Kashmir and Israel in Palestine.

JI has repeatedly stated that the Muslim Ummah should rise above political divisions and show unified support for oppressed communities, especially in Kashmir and Gaza.
