During a session in the upper house, MP Jaya Bachchan raised a strong appeal for dedicated emergency lanes on Indian roads to ensure ambulances can reach hospitals without delay.
She urged the government to direct the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) to enforce dedicated lanes as originally recommended under the National Ambulance Code 2016 and to activate the 2018 directive by the Supreme Court of India that mandates “green corridors” for medical emergencies.
Additionally, she called for a parliamentary review through the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health to investigate and document deaths caused by delay in ambulance arrival, citing that many such fatalities go unrecorded in national data.
