Philippine court has handed a life sentence to Alice Guo, a former mayor of Bamban in Tarlac province, following her conviction on human-trafficking charges. Alice Guo, a Chinese national, allegedly faked her identity to become mayor of Bamban in the Philippines’ Tarlac province. She claimed to be Filipina, but investigations revealed she had no verifiable birth records or legitimate citizenship documentation.
Case Scam Center, Trafficking, and National Security Concerns
Guo, whose real name is Guo Hua Ping, rose to power after being elected mayor in 2022. Investigators later revealed that she leased a sprawling compound to a Chinese-run operation accused of running a massive scam hub. During raids, authorities uncovered human-trafficking victims and alleged ties to a network of “pig butchering” scams a type of investment fraud that often targets people via online romance and cryptocurrency pitches.

This raises serious questions about whether Guo was more than just a political figure whether she was part of a larger espionage operation.
The court found Guo guilty not only of human trafficking but also other crimes associated with her alleged scam center. Authorities also ordered her compound seized by the government, citing its use in illicit activity.
