Ethiopia’s Defense Minister Aisha Mohammed underscored that the nation’s achievements are rooted in its people’s unity, resilience, and perseverance. Speaking at a public event this week, she highlighted how Ethiopia has weathered years of political instability, security challenges, and economic pressures, yet continued to move forward by relying on its collective spirit.
Resilience in the face of conflict and economic hardship
Ethiopia has endured a series of crises over the past decade, from prolonged conflicts to droughts and global economic headwinds. Despite these challenges, Aisha argued that the resilience of ordinary citizens has ensured that the country continues to stand strong.
She praised farmers, workers, and civil servants who maintained their duties even under difficult circumstances, contributing to national recovery. This resilience, she said, is not merely survival—it is an active demonstration of Ethiopia’s determination to remain sovereign and pursue development goals despite the odds.
Perseverance, according to Aisha, is what has transformed short-term survival into long-term achievement. She stressed that Ethiopia’s people have never given up, even in moments of despair, and that this mindset is vital as the country continues reforms in governance, infrastructure, and security.
In her remarks, she noted that ongoing modernization efforts in the military, investments in infrastructure, and programs to expand education and healthcare are part of a broader vision of prosperity.
Defense forces play key role in safeguarding national unity
The Defense Minister also highlighted the Ethiopian National Defense Forces as a central pillar of the country’s stability. She emphasized that the ENDF has not only defended Ethiopia’s borders but has also played a role in peacekeeping missions and domestic stabilization.
By maintaining discipline and a sense of duty, the military has served as a unifying force during difficult times. Aisha praised soldiers for their sacrifices, saying their commitment embodies the values of resilience and perseverance that define the nation.
