Actor Divyabharathi has accused GOAT director Naresh Kuppili of making sexist and belittling comments toward her during the film’s production. She shared screenshots on social media showing the director referring to her as chilaka, a term she described as insulting in the context it was used. She also claimed he said she was fit only for “second-lead” roles.
Screenshots Spark Online Outrage
The screenshots quickly triggered criticism online, with many users supporting her and condemning the language used by the director. Divyabharathi clarified that the issue isn’t about one word, but about a mindset that normalizes misogyny in professional spaces. She said this wasn’t an isolated incident and alleged that the director routinely disrespected women on and off set.

Divyabharathi also expressed disappointment in her co-star Sudigali Sudheer. According to her, he remained silent even when the remarks were made in front of him. She said she expected a lead actor to speak up, especially when a colleague was being humiliated.
Actress Responds to Claims She “Always Has Issues”
Addressing criticism that she frequently clashes with teams, Divyabharathi insisted she has worked smoothly in Tamil cinema. She said problems arise only when people cross professional boundaries. She emphasized that calling out sexism is not creating drama but demanding respect.
Her allegations have revived broader discussions about sexism in the South Indian film industry. Several recent incidents have highlighted how casual comments often mask deeper issues. Divyabharathi’s statement has now become part of a larger conversation about creating safer and more respectful film sets.
