Islamabad once again became the stage for an important diplomatic moment as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar welcomed Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi for the sixth round of the Pakistan China Strategic Dialogue. The two countries used the opportunity not only to review their long-standing ties but also to chart out a new course for the future one anchored in expanded economic cooperation, stronger security commitments, and a reaffirmation of their decades-old all-weather friendship.
CPEC enters a new phase with broader scope
At the center of the dialogue was the China Pakistan Economic Corridor , which has stood as the flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative. Since its inception, CPEC has brought Pakistan major infrastructure projects and energy investments, easing chronic electricity shortages and improving connectivity.
For Pakistan, this means diversifying its economy, generating jobs, and securing long-term growth opportunities. For China, the corridor continues to serve as a reliable trade and energy passage, linking its western provinces with markets in South Asia, the Middle East, and beyond.
Pakistan reaffirms its unwavering commitment to China
During the talks, Dar also underscored that China remains at the heart of Pakistan’s foreign policy. He reiterated Pakistan’s support for the One-China principle and vowed to stand with Beijing on core issues of sovereignty and national security. In response, Wang Yi emphasized that China sees Pakistan not only as a neighbor but as a trusted partner and strategic ally.
China, he added, will continue to support Pakistan’s sovereignty, help in its fight against terrorism, and stand by the country in navigating economic difficulties.
Expanding trade, technology, and agricultural cooperation
Beyond CPEC, the two countries expressed strong interest in widening cooperation in trade, technology transfer, and agriculture. By aligning their development strategies, both sides aim to build a framework that enables more efficient use of Pakistan’s vast agricultural potential and natural resources, while Chinese expertise and investment drive modernization forward
Officials also discussed enhancing collaboration in digital technology, green energy, and industrial parks. These projects are expected to give Pakistan greater access to advanced technology while also attracting much-needed foreign investment.
Building trust through people-to-people and multilateral links
Both sides agreed to expand cultural and educational exchanges, including scholarships, joint research programs, and tourism initiatives.
These efforts aim to deepen the friendship between ordinary citizens of both nations, ensuring that the relationship is not confined to state-level agreements but grows through personal and cultural ties.
On the multilateral stage, the two countries pledged closer coordination at international forums such as the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization .
