A legal storm has erupted in China after gaming entrepreneur Xu Bo sued his former partner Tang Jing, demanding the return of roughly 300 million yuan (about US $42.4 million) money he transferred over several years during their long-term relationship.
Xu, founder of renowned gaming company Duoyi Network and creator of the popular game Fantasy Westward Journey, met Tang on a matchmaking website in 2009, and the pair lived together for 14 years — though they never officially married.
According to court filings, Xu transferred a total of 819 million yuan between 2012 and 2018. . He filed the suit in 2024 to reclaim the balance.
The case took a dramatic turn when Tang responded by alleging Xu fathered more than 300 children a staggering claim that has since gone viral on Chinese social media. Tang says much of the money she received went toward supporting this large, unconventional “family,” though she concedes many of the children lack official household registration.
Legal experts and social commentators warn that the saga is raising broader questions about informal relationships, financial transfers, parentage claims, and how Chinese courts should handle such disputes in the absence of formal marriage. Meanwhile, Duoyi Network has distanced itself from the controversy — condemning what it calls “defamatory content” online tied to Tang’s claims.
