In a heated session of the Assam Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made an explosive declaration: the death of celebrated singer Zubeen Garg, who died in Singapore on September 19, was not an accident but “plain and simple murder.”
CM Sarma said that although one person may have directly caused Garg’s death, several others “aided and abetted” the crime. He also warned that the motive behind the killing will “shock the people of Assam.”
Because of his firm belief it was a homicide, the Assam government quickly added Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) to the case file. According to Sarma, without this addition, “all the accused would have been out on bail.”
The SIT (Special Investigation Team) under Assam Police’s CID is examining the case, having questioned over 250 witnesses and seized multiple items.
