Congress Targets BJP Over Chinese Delegation Meeting at BJP HQ Amid LAC Tensions

The Congress party launched a sharp attack on the BJP on January 13, 2026, questioning a high-level Chinese delegation’s visit to the BJP headquarters in New Delhi amid ongoing border tensions along the Line of Actual Control . Congress leaders accused the ruling party of “secret diplomacy” and demanded transparency on the purpose and outcomes of the meeting.

Senior Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera described the visit as “deeply disturbing” and asked why the Chinese delegation met BJP leaders at the party office rather than through official government channels. He alleged this raised serious questions about backchannel talks while Indian soldiers remain deployed in harsh conditions along the disputed border.

The delegation, reportedly including members of the Communist Party of China’s International Liaison Department, met BJP leaders including party president J.P. Nadda and other senior figures. BJP sources described the meeting as a routine courtesy call and part of ongoing people-to-people exchanges, denying any official diplomatic discussions took place.

Congress leaders countered that the timing amid stalled border disengagement talks in eastern Ladakh and repeated Chinese incursions was suspicious and undermined the government’s public stance on national security. They demanded the government clarify whether the meeting involved discussions on LAC issues or bilateral relations.

This controversy reignites political sparring over India-China relations, with the opposition accusing the BJP of mixed messaging while the ruling party dismisses the criticism as baseless and politically motivated.
