Renuka Chowdhury’s dog row deepens as she mimics barking privilege motion looms

Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury stirred a political storm when she brought a rescued puppy into the Parliament complex at the start of the 2025 Winter Session.

When asked whether she feared a privilege motion over the incident, she defiantly responded with a bark “Bhow, bhow… aur kya bolun?” and accused her critics of ignoring more serious issues such as pollution and votes-roll revision turmoil.

She questioned what law barred an MP from briefly bringing in an animal, and claimed that “the real [people] who bite are sitting inside Parliament.”

The move triggered immediate backlash. Other MPs especially from the ruling side have condemned the act as a breach of parliamentary decorum.

With the Winter Session underway, this episode has overshadowed earlier business forcing the discussion not just back to protocol and decorum, but also raising larger questions about protest, symbolism, and seriousness in Parliament.
