Veteran filmmaker Ashoke Pandit has strongly criticized Jaya Bachchan for her remarks about paparazzi, calling her language elitist and disrespectful to an entire profession. The controversy erupted after Bachchan, in a public interview, described paparazzi as “guys who wear tight, dirty drain-pipe pants” and questioned their education, background and professionalism.
Bachchan had clarified that while she respects trained journalists, she drew a firm line against paparazzi whom she accused of unprofessional and intrusive behaviour at events. She said her relationship with the paparazzi was “zero.
In response, Pandit argued that while critiquing aggressive coverage is valid, demeaning an entire community of media workers was neither appropriate nor fair especially from someone of Bachchan’s stature as an experienced actor and a sitting MP.
