Altex Romania outlines big growth plans for Brico Dépôt after takeover

Bucharest Altex Romania has unveiled its plans to significantly expand the Brico Dépôt chain following its acquisition of the DIY group from Kingfisher Group.

Altex inherited a network of roughly 30 Brico Dépôt outlets 10 owned and 20 leased. The retailer plans to invest in upgrading existing stores to meet its standards and gradually convert rented stores into owned properties where possible.

The acquisition marks a major diversification step for Altex, historically known as a leader in electronics and IT retail. With this move, the company signals a stronger push into the home-improvement and DIY sector a market previously dominated by players such as Dedeman.

If Altex’s expansion plan succeeds, Brico Dépôt could emerge as a significant home-improvement chain under Romanian ownership, possibly reshaping competition in the DIY and construction-materials retail market.
