De De Pyaar De 2’ Review: R. Madhavan Steals the Show in Ajay Devgn’s Latest Rom-Com Drama

De De Pyaar De 2’ Review: R. Madhavan Steals the Show in Ajay Devgn’s Latest Rom-Com Drama

De De Pyaar De 2 arrives with big expectations, a star-heavy cast, and the challenge of living up to the charm of the 2019 hit. Directed by Anshul Sharma and produced by Luv Ranjan, the sequel attempts to blend humour, family drama, and modern relationships but the biggest surprise is that R. Madhavan, not Ajay Devgn, walks away with the film.

Madhavan Becomes the Emotional Core

While the film is positioned as an Ajay Devgn led entertainer, it is Madhavan’s character, his emotional range, and his effortless screen presence that elevate the narrative. His performance adds warmth and maturity, helping the story stay grounded even when the writing becomes uneven.

He plays the calm, composed counterpoint to Ajay’s more familiar style of gruff comedy and family conflict, giving the film a depth it might otherwise miss.

Ajay Devgn Stays in His Comfort Zone

Ajay Devgn reprises his role with trademark humour and deadpan timing. His scenes work best when he leans into the chaos of a complicated love life. However, the script occasionally feels repetitive, reflecting themes already explored in the first film.

Despite this, the chemistry among the lead cast helps maintain engagement.

Luv Ranjan’s Writing Shows New Maturity

Luv Ranjan, known for sharp romance-comedy dramas often criticised for one-sided gender portrayals, seems to have grown. The writing in De De Pyaar De 2 attempts to give women more agency and avoids the overtly biased tone seen in some of his previous films.

The humour is less abrasive, the emotional beats more balanced, and the relationships portrayed with a slightly more realistic touch.
